This book was a light, quick read, and had a good twist at the end and plot. My only problem was the character development. Some of them seemed very one-dimensional. Most of the time that’s totally fine, especially for mystery series. However, the main character, Kelly, just seemed almost too put together. She doesn’t drink or eat anything unhealthy, a lot of the book seemed to mention her healthy diet and low calorie meals. She is a black belt…who rides horses. And she flosses nightly! Who actually flosses nightly. Once a week is plenty for us mere mortals.
Kelly cares about everyone and is very nice to every single person she encounters. She never gets annoyed or truly suspicious of anyone. I’m used to people having one suspect and really zeroing in on them. Kelly didn’t want anyone to have committed a crime, so it seems. Anyway, she was just very vanilla and had literally no internal issues it seemed. Which is not close to anything I can relate to at this point in my life! But I did enjoy the read. It was a nice, quick read with a good plot. I’m interested to see where the next story in the series goes and if it’s the same characters. I give this book a 2.5/5. The main reason is because I can’t relate to Kelly much at all, but I imagine if I could I would like it much better. She’s probably just way too mature of a character for me!
